“The average American believes non-profit organizations and charities typically spend 36.3 cents out of every dollar on overhead expenses such as fundraising and administration.  But the average American also believes a reasonable standard is for organizations to spend 22.4 cents out of every dollar on overhead, leaving a sizable gap between what people think really gets spent and what they think is reasonable.  In fact, 62% of Americans believe non-profits typically spend more than a reasonable amount on overhead.  Possibly the most shocking number from this study is that over one out of five Americans believe charities spend 60 cents or more out of every dollar on overhead, rather than on their mission.”
